Cicadan - "Mother" (2012)

CICADAN "Mother"

Year: 2012
Genre: Atmospheric Black/Doom Metal
Country: Australia

Track List:
  1. Day
  2. Dusk
  3. Night (Dendronic Pessimism)
"Cicadan is the solo project of Shamus Toomath. The music protests for radical environmentalism and defence of indigenous rights in order to forge a deeper understanding of the hostile, yet beautiful Australian environment. In spirit, Cicadan is eco-anarchistic, with atavistic motives stemming from the rich indigenous knowledge of the area. However, Cicadan is not a nature-worship band. No gods, no masters"

As of now, this LP is available only on bandcamp, but a physical release will be available through Eternal Warfare Records in October. "Mother" has been reviewed several times, so I suggest you to read this review by Heathen Harvest before downloading (I don't think I'd be able to write a better review). As for me, my only problem with this release is that there's too little actual metal and too much ambient/acoustic parts. Anyway, it's a very promising debut, and I'm pleased to know that the founder of Cicadan reads my blog. Recommended to everyone who loves Cascadian stuff.

Din Of Awakening - demo (2012)

DIN OF AWAKENING "demo"

Year: 2012
Genre: Raw Atmospheric Black Metal
Country: USA

Track List:
  1. Unbirth
  2. Becoming Flesh, Embracing Death
  3. Begotten
Anarcho-primitivist black metal from Newburgh, NY. The project has apparent connections with the ALF. The music of DoA is self-labelled as "Haunting Metaphysical Black Metal" with lyrics based on themes of moon/nature worship, green anarchist philosophy, and isolation (and yes, like in case with this Costa Rican project, DoA was also inspired by the 1990 movie Begotten). Personally I wasn't that impressed by this demo (or maybe I simply didn't understand it from the first listening?..), but I'm sure that some of my readers would find it interesting and promising. According to Michael (the man behind the project), the second demo (drastically different material) will be released soon on Fallen Empire records in the U.S and Mordgrimm in the U.K/Europe. Well... let's wait.

Listen to the whole demo:
You can also download it from SVN OKKLT or purchase it @ Ominous Domain.

Vaba Marat - "Black Noise Antifascista" (2012)

VABA MARAT "Black Noise Antifascista"

Year: 2012
Genre: Noise, Primitive Black Metal/Punk
Country: Brazil

Track List:
  1. O Dominado
  2. O Antiprimitivo
  3. A Plenitude
  4. O Erro
  5. A Assombração
  6. O Dominado
bandcamp

Newest release from Vaba Marat, a noisecore/raw black metal broject from Curitiba led by Felipe (also in MOTIM and Homunculi). The quality of production is surprisingly good (if this word is at all applicable to noise/anti-music), and I'd recomment this EP to everyone who likes raw and noisy blackened punk. The only downside, in my opinion, is that the opening track (as well as the ending) is somewhat too lengthy.

Il Male - "Ritorno" (2012)

  7. L'assassino

DOWNLOAD

You probably are already familiar with this Italian band, and I think they have significantly improved their sound on their new album "Ritorno" in comparison with their first self-titled LP. Less crust, more black metal. Definitely recommended!

Annihilate! - "Them" (2012)

ANNIHILATE "Them"

Abbey ov Thelema - "Prelude to Apocalypse" (2012)

ABBEY OV THELEMA "Prelude to Apocalypse"
Year: 2012
Genre: Symphonic Post-Black Metal
Country: Slovakia

Track List:
  1. Part I: The Body - The Many Who Became One, Yet Refused to Dissolve into None
  2. Part II: The Mind - Making the Darkness Conscious
  3. Part III: The Soul - All Shall Be As It Ever Was
DOWNLOAD

Abbey ov Thelema are a band from Slovakia founded in the beginning of summer of 2009 as a dark ambient one-man side project of Delgrast (who was then a member of another BM band, Nevaloth), who now call their style "Transcendental Khaoblack Metal". Despite the statement " "Abbey ov Thelema is not, never was and never will be a political band" on their official site, and their lyrics solely based on occult themes, Delgrast states that their approach to the music is very anarchistic/khaotic, and they'd be glad to see this promo on my blog.

...To be honest, this kind of BM, with lots of keyboards, isn't my favourite, so I don't think I can provide an adequate review of this promo. If you're interested, visit their official site and follow the links to reviews (there's a lot). And if you run a label and are interested in releasing their upcoming full-length album, here's the contact e-mail: delgrast [AT] gmail [DOT] com.

Kolaps systému & Raven - split (2012)

KOLAPS SYSTEMU / RAVEN

Year: 2012
Genre: Harsh Noise, Power Electronics
Country: Slovakia / Serbia

Track List:
  1. KOLAPS SYSTEMU - Heroes & Freedom Fighters
  2. RAVEN - Counterculture
DOWNLOAD

And finally in my series of "noisy" posts - a split album featuring two radical noise projects: Kolaps Systému (Slovakia) and Raven (Serbia). If I understood the release notes right, the KS' side was recorded at a forest hut, using very primitive equipment (which is fairly consistent with KS' ideology) - chain, plastic tube, harmonica and so on.

Svartvit - live set (2012)

SVARTVIT "Live @ Don't cum if you don't like noize"

Year: 2012
Genre: Harsh Noise, Power Electronic
Country: Netherlands

DOWNLOAD

Svartvit, a self-labelled "violent harsh noise" project from Holland, is active again after a period of almost no shows. Here's a lo-fi live recording of Svartvit set @ JH Jespo (Vertrijk, Belgium). Next show is scheduled for Sept. 8th @ Cinepalace, Kortrijk. Svartvit's creative output may be not noticeably political (except for one track called "Black Bloc"), but the ideology behind the project is definitely anarchist.

Begotten - "Ritos" (2012)

BEGOTTEN "Ritos"

Year: 2012
Genre: Dark Ambient
Country: Costa Rica

  1. Grimorio 1 (Dance Funebre / Macabre Artefactum / Pestilencia Infernale)
  2. Grimorio 2 (Ars Diaboli / Masquerade Tenebrarum / Lugubre Foresta Oscura)

Yet another anarcho-friendly dark ambient project, this time from Costa Rica. The name "Begotten" is an obvious reference to an eponymous avant-garde horror movie by E.Elias Merhige.

B.D.M. - "Funeral on Svalbard" (2012)

BESVIKELSENS DYSTRA MONOTONI "Funeral on Svalbard"

Year: 2012
Genre: Dark Ambient
Country: Russia

Track List:
  1. July
  2. Prins Karls Forland
  3. Illa Tiðandi
  4. Barentsburg - Moscow
  5. Chaotic Monotonous Life
  6. Gray Space
  7. Fear Has Big Eyes
  8. F.L.I.M.
DOWNLOAD

Yet another one-man dark ambient project from Moscow whose ideology is fairly in the spirit of my blog. I already have posted several of his releases here, and now it's time to post his newest full-length album, inspired by the nature of Svalbard. B.D.M. himself considers this album "strange" and "controversial", because of poor quality of production caused by lack of money and equipment. But it has gathered a lot of positive reviews so far, and I honestly don't think the quality is THAT poor...

25 August 2012: Karelian Plague Fest

Despite all the political shit that's currently going on, Russian underground scene is still alive and well, and a big Petrozavodsk-based festival "Karelian Plague" is announced for this weekend. There are several Old Roots New Shoots bands in the lineup (including Axidance, Led By Fear and The Last Three Winters), along with several other projects that's worth seeing live: Life Is Your Death (dark hardcore, PTZ), Voodoo Puppets (horror punk, PTZ), Warta (neocrust, SPb), Nimrud (melancholic post-metal, Moscow), Omega SuperStars (satanic hardcore, PTZ), Minaret (excellent blackened powerviolence/screamo from Moscow, highly recommended to check out!), and many others.

Angst - demo (2012)

ANGST "demo"

Year: 2012
Genre: Black Metal, Blackened Hardcore/Grind
Country: Germany

Track List:
  1. Peripheral
  2. Another Dead End's Anthem
DOWNLOAD

"...this band has no straight political agenda / lyrics. they are more personal but always have a political or social critical themes running in the back. we are coming from other political / diy bands that have embraced anarchist ideas..."

Well, another black metal/hardcore/grindcore/whatever project based out of Berlin. The bandname may be unoriginal, but the sound isn't disappointing. Although short, this demo is good enough for a debut. Now they're working on their first proper EP, but all of their members are active in other bands, so the work is going quite slowly.

Baldaraz - "The old b-site" (2012)

BALDARAZ "The old b-site"

Year: 2012
Genre: Raw Black Metal, Dark Ambient
Country: Germany

Track List:

  1. Intro (The Ragnarokum)
  2. Introduction To Life (demo '11)
  3. North Frozen Dark (demo '06)
  4. Save Mother Earth (demo '06)
  5. Human (demo '08)
  6. Outro (Oberflächlichkeit zerstört Individualität - demo '09)

DOWNLOAD

A collection of early (2006-2011) demos by Baldaraz. I guess you're already familiar with this duo from Berlin because of their demo "Wolves Without Sound" (and the butthurt it caused by it's anti-Absurd cover image). Of course not all tracks on this compilation sound good, but there definitely are some that are worth listening (especially the 1st half of the album). Not sure if the misprint in the title (should be "old b-sides", right?) is intentional, but will leave it "as is" anyway.

Reflexor - "Revenge Of The Mycosis" (2012)

REFLEXOR "Revenge Of The Mycosis"

Year: 2012
Genre: Thrash Metal
Country: Germany

Track List:
  1. Revenge Of The Mycosis
  2. Organized
  3. Pyroclastic Extinction
  4. Gather Your Power
  5. The Obscene End
  6. Ubiquitous Force
bandcamp / facebook

Reflexor are an young thrash metal band from Gießen, formed in September 2006 and now consisting of 5 members. Their lyrics are political, plus they play live mostly at squats. "Revenge Of The Mycosis" is their first EP, released a few months ago, and it's pretty good for a debut release (though not much different from a lot of other German thrash metal in terms of sound).

Smuteční Slavnost - "Trapné Ticho Neexistuje" (2012)

SMUTECNI SLAVNOST "Trapné Ticho Neexistuje"

Year: 2012
Genre: Atmospheric Black Metal
Country: Czech Republic

Track List:
  1. Budoucnost se nesmí opakovat
  2. Nikdo nemluví, protože nikdo se neodvažuje poslouchat
DOWNLOAD

A short debut demo (intro + 1 long track) from Smuteční Slavnost, a new two-men BM project from Czech Republic who found out about my blog after a conversation with Marnost's singer. Like everywhere in Eastern Europe, most Czech BM bands take part in the NS scene, or at least tolerate it. However, Smuteční Slavnost don't wan't to have anything to do with NSBM, and if your understanding of the term "misanthropy" is limited to "99% of humans should be terminated", their music isn't for you as well. Of course the quality of production isn't perfect, but isn't bad either for a first demo.

Sönderriket - "Samlade Hemligheter" (2012)

SONDERRIKET "Samlade Hemligheter"

Country: Sweden

Track List:
  1. Det som inte är svart måste inte vara vitt
  2. Eldklot och silvercirkel
  3. AUIEM

  6. Vi gör världen med tystnad
  7. Skymningssaga för Canis Lupus
  8. Inklusion
DOWNLOAD

"Although apolitical as a project, Sönderriket supports the cause and struggle of those bearing the red flag"

Just like in case with Abyssal, I absolutely can't guarantee that you'll like this album, as it's quite experimental stuff - mostly blackened ambient/noise with spoken word lyrics. Anyway, you can watch this video first and decide if you like it or not:

Taken From The Nest - s/t (2012)

TAKEN FROM THE NEST "s/t demo"

Year: 2012
Genre: Blackened Crust / Death Metal
Country: Italy

Track List:
  1. Excrete Thru Surface
  2. This is the way the World ends
  3. Transhumanist
DOWNLOAD

"The band “Taken From The Nest” borns in Perugia in June 2011 by an idea of Paolo Lombardi (Five Hundred Murders) and Riccardo Mencarelli, bassist and drummer respectively. Paolo and Riccardo published an online ad to find the other members of the band. Claudio Cilione answered to the ad and he became the voice of the band. The band was looking for a guitar player, and Claudio introduces his friend Daniele Boccali, which joines immediatly the band. In September 2011, after many test to find the second guitar player, the pursuit ended with the arrival of Edoardo Del Principe. Immediatly, the quintet began to write songs and play cover, and in the following months the band prepare the content for a first demo.

Influenced by Death Metal, Crust Punk and Black Metal, the musical pieces embody the idea of the quintet to blend the various elements with a soul raw and wild. In January 2012 the band began to record its first production in the recording studio of Daniele Marinelli, Teclas, where, in two days the band records the three musical pieces of the disk that bears its name"

Well... maybe the choice for a band name wasn't the best, but their first demo sounds promising. BTW, I have to repeat that I don't recommend sending me your music via facebook, because I check my inbox there only occasionally (and the personal messages for the RABM page are rarely checked at all).

Abyssal - "Landscapes" (2010)

ABYSSAL "Landscapes"

Year: 2010
Genre: Crust/Doom/Sludge
Country: Mexico

bandcamp

Detesta Records have pointed me to this release from Tijuana-based band Abyssal(don't confuse them with the UK-based death metal band under the same name!), consisting of only one long track. Personally I didn't really understand this album, but if you're a fan of minimalistic doom/sludge, and you liked Abyssal's side of this 4-way split, you might enjoy this one too.

Act of Impalement - "Ritual Warfare" (2012)

ACT OF IMPALEMENT "Ritual Warfare"

Year: 2012
Genre: "War Doom"
Country: USA

Track List:
  1. Reign of the Impaler
  2. Now Your God Has Fallen
  3. Ritual Warfare
  4. Dusk on the Blood Enveloped Battlefield
bandcamp / facebook

"Act of Impalement is a 2 piece War Doom band from Nashville, TN. Fusing the traditional doom of Black Sabbath and Saint Vitus, the desolate black metal of Darkthrone and Mayhem, the crushing Death/Doom of Autopsy and Bolt Thrower, and the filthy sludge of Eyehategod into a heavy and raw creation"

To be honest, I expected to hear much more BM on this demo, instead of doom/sludge - but it's still good enough for a first demo, and the band embraces DIY/anti-authoritarian ideas. More demos are coming soon in the next few months.

INCRÜST "A Hate Named Revolt"

Some more fast and agressive metallic hardcore/crust for you - this time from Switzerland. Incrüst are a band from Geneva with members of Mumakil, Sedative and Burning Flesh, and "A Hate Named Revolt" is their debut 6-track demo heavily influenced by such bands as Disfear, Wolfbrigade, Tragedy, Disrupt, etc. Great stuff.

Parasitic Skies & Losing Skin - split (2012)

PARASITIC SKIES / LOSING SKIN "12'' split"

Year: 2012
Genre: Metallic Hardcore
Country: USA

Track List:

Parasitic Skies
  1. The Void
  2. The Throat Of The Sleeping Sun
Losing Skin
  1. Depressor
  2. Time Crawling By Me
  3. Destroyer's Crown (bonus)
DOWNLOAD

This 12inch split is featuring two metallic hardcore bands from the Cascadian region, released by Headfirst! Records. According to the label, it's free for download, but any support is encouraged, as they're a small (two person) operation who spent a ton of time/efforts/money to help support bands they're friends with. As for the bands - of course it isn't BM, but I guess a lot of my readers are into this "Holy Terror"-kind of sound and aesthetics (think Integrity, Ringworm, etc.)
